Discover the enchanting fusion of cultures with This Tale of Ours, a dynamic quartet formed in 2010 at the Labyrinth Institute in Crete.
The ensemble, comprising two musicians from Crete, multi-instrumentalists Ross Daly and Kelly Thoma, alongside Toronto-based tombak player Pedram Khavarzamini and tar player Araz Salek, presents original compositions inspired by modal music of Iran, the former Ottoman Empire, and the Balkans.
Breaking boundaries, the quartet seamlessly blends Greek, Iranian, and Turkish instruments, crafting contemporary music rooted in centuries-long traditions of cultural exchange. Following the aesthetic vision of master musician Ross Daly, the quartet transcends political borders, exploring modal music traditions in a regional context rather than confining them to specific traditions.
This Tale of Ours adopts a trans-modal approach, delving into shared commonalities and modalities of makams and musical idioms across these rich musical traditions. The quartet, consisting of recognized figures like Araz Salek, Pedram Khavarzamini, Ross Daly, and Kelly Thoma, has mesmerized audiences in Greece and Canada. Immerse yourself in the captivating sounds of global collaboration as they weave a musical tapestry that transcends borders and traditions.
